Studio M: Paintings by Isin Sezer

The Studio M exhibition, Paintings by Isin Sezer, will open Friday, November 18, in the Fred F. Silk Community Room of the Massillon Museum. It will continue through December 31, 2016.

The public is invited to attend the artist’s reception on November 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The party will be free and open to everyone; no reservations will be required.

A native of Turkey, Sezer graduated from the University of Ankara with a degree in Italian Studies. She studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Kortrijk, Belgium (2001–2007). Now an Ohio resident, she paints in her studio in Summit ArtSpace.

Sezer is intrigued by microscopic images. Always interested in science and biology, her work is closly related to microphotography and biology. She says she is “fascinated by the richness of the colors and shapes of moss, mushrooms, lichens, body cells, and bacteria.” She expresses harmony in nature with transparent layers of acrylic on canvas that she says “gradually form an evanescent, ethereal, and untouchable atmosphere.”

“Ultimately based on the promise of circles of life, of night and day, of birth and death, changing of the seasons, resurrection and renewal, my spirit seeks for simplicity. I go back in time and reach for the big bang of all the creation.  I seek to touch the origins, the sources, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the elusive spark, that essence of creation that is ever evasive, yet forever wondrous, ” Sezer says.

The Massillon Museum’s Studio M exhibition may be seen during regular Museum hours, Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.  For more information, call the Massillon Museum at 330-833-4061, or visit massillonmuseum.org.

Guests at the Studio M exhibition opening can also take a first look at From the Drawing Board: Architectural Renderings from the Collection. Additional exhibitions include: the Stark County Artists Exhibition, Paul Brown and the Massillon Tiger Swing Band, and The Immel Circus.

A Rhythms concert will immediately follow the Isin Sezer exhibition opening. Moustache Yourself, an Akron-based gypsy jazz band will perform an eclectic mix of songs from the style’s inception in the 1930s to contemporary sounds, augmented by originals written by members. Tickets—$12 ($10 MassMu member)—may be purchased in advance in person or by phone. They will be sold at the door if seats remain availble.

Studio M enhances the collaboration between the Museum and the community by showcasing the artistic talents of local, regional, and national artists. The series of five-week shows will continue throughout the year, selected by jurors from proposals submitted by artists. Guidelines and an application are available by calling the Massillon Museum at 330-833-4061 or visiting massillonmuseum.org.

The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark.

The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East (Ohio Route 172) in the heart of downtown Massillon.  Free and convenient street parking is available on adjacent streets.  A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
