Glenn Dettman: Performance
Dettman, a Clinton, Ohio, resident, is a photographer for The Independent newspaper in Massillon. He has been photographing since 1980, especially enjoying nature, landscapes, architecture, and local historic and travel destinations. He also uses his photographic skills to reveal his passion for motorcycles, automobiles, and musical performances.
The photographer previously worked for The Sun Journal (North Canton) and the Fulton Signal and Canal Courier (Canal Fulton). He is a charter member of the Canal Camera Club in Canal Fulton and has served as the organization’s vice president. He regularly contributes to the photo archives of the Canton/Stark County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. His work has been seen in publications and websites; he has recorded many proms and weddings; and he has previously exhibited his photographs at the Massillon Museum, Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, and in private businesses and public offices.
The artist’s reception will be deferred until Saturday, September 3, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. During that outdoor event, the public will be invited inside to view Dettman’s artwork in the Museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room as well as special motorcycles in the Museum lobby. The party is free and open to everyone; no reservations are necessary. Dettman encourages guests to arrive on their motorcycles and take advantage of showcase parking on First Street Southeast, which will be closed to regular traffic.
The artist will offer summertime refreshments to those who attend, and Vicious Six will provide musical entertainment throughout the event. The Performance reception is part of a community event, Spokes. Spokes will also include a vintage bicycle alley-cat-style scramble sponsored by Stark Cycling Center. Additional downtown merchants and organizations are expected to participate in the afternoon’s activities.
