Diane Belfiglio: Oil Pastels
On display May 20 - June 26, 2011
FREE Exhibit opening on Friday, May 20 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

North Canton artist Diane Belfiglio will exhibit recent oil pastels in the Massillon Museum’s Studio M from May 20 through June 26, 2011. The drawings will range from geometric architectural depictions of historic places to more fluid organic images that echo with shadows.

When the exhibition opens on Friday, May 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the public is invited to meet the artist, view her work, and enjoy refreshments in the Fred F. Silk Community Room of the Massillon Museum. The party is free and open to all; no reservations are necessary.

Belfiglio earned her BFA in drawing, painting, and graphics from The Ohio State University and her MFA in painting from Syracuse University. In 1980, she was the recipient of an Aid-to-Individual-Artists Fellowship Grant from the Ohio Arts Council. She has exhibited her work in more than 150 group and solo shows—regionally, nationally, and internationally—including her February 2011 show at The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. Her work can be found in corporate and private collections including that of singer Patti LaBelle. It is in the permanent collections of the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan, and The Butler Institute of American Art.

The artist has taught part-time at Syracuse University, Kent State University, and The University of Akron, and is currently an adjunct professor at Walsh University. She also teaches privately through her own studio.

The Studio M show may be seen through June 26, during regular Museum hours, Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., except when the Silk Room has been reserved for private functions. A call to the Museum office can confirm that the exhibit is available for viewing—330-833-4061.

Studio M enhances the collaboration between the Museum and the community by showcasing the artistic talents of local, regional, and national artists. The series of five-week shows will continue throughout the year, selected by jurors from proposals submitted by artists. Brochures containing guidelines and an application are available by contacting the Massillon Museum at 330-833-4061 or www.massillonmuseum.org.

The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East (Ohio Route 172) in downtown Massillon. To learn more about the Massillon Museum, call 330-833-4061 or log onto massillonmuseum.org. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
