Congratulations 2022 Art Educator of the Year Winner!

Congratulations to Stephen Tornero, Art Teacher at Plain Local Schools, who has been named 2022 Art Educator of the Year!

 


We were honored to recognize the five finalists for the 2022 Art Educator of the Year Award co-sponsored by the Canton Museum of Art and MassMu!

-Matthew J. Ferrell—Career Technical Education Instructor, Media Arts & Communication, Washington High School, Massillon City Schools

-Candice Greene—Art Teacher, North Canton Middle School and Hoover High School, North Canton City Schools

-Brian Poetter—Art Teacher, Jackson Memorial Middle School, Jackson Local Schools

-Susan Rusu—Visual Art Teacher, Perry High School, Perry Local Schools

-Stephen Tornero—Visual Art Teacher, Oakwood Middle School, Plain Local Schools

This award recognizes public, private, and parochial Art Educators in the region served by the Stark County Educational Service Center who have positively impacted their students and communities, and who have shown great dedication to the field of Arts Education.

MassMu and CMA announced the Art Educator of the Year Award winner and the Canton Symphony Orchestra announced the Music Educator of the Year Award winner on Saturday, March 5, 2022, during the Canton Symphony Orchestra concert at Zimmermann Symphony Center. 

 

About These Awards:

Nominations for the sixth annual Music Educator of the Year Award sponsored by the Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and the third annual Art Educator of the Year Award co-sponsored by the Canton Museum of Art and Massillon Museum were accepted through January 6, 2022.

Nominees were licensed Music and Art Educators in a public, private, or parochial school classroom setting in Grades K-12, in the region served by the Stark County Educational Service Center.  Educators from all fields of Music and Visual Arts are eligible.  The honored Educators were selected from a field of ten finalists chosen by a panel of qualified judges from the community.  Finalists were recognized during intermission at the Canton Symphony Orchestra concert on Saturday, March 5, 2022. Former recipients of the award are not eligible to win in consecutive years.
