INTERNSHIPS
Internships
The Museum offers a variety of internships for undergraduate and graduate students.
There are several types of paid museum internships at the Massillon Museum that are appropriate for careers in museums and galleries, and also for those with an interest in the arts, history, business, education, public history, and nonprofits.
Internships can qualify for college credit if this type of experience is required by your degree. They can provide meaningful hands-on experience and unique networking opportunities with professionals. The museum operates with a small staff, so you can be sure that your work will be important and valued.
Which internship is right for you? Review the following departments to see what areas are available.

Interns Rebecca Finley and Sarah Dickes assisted staff member Emily Vigil in photographing, inventorying, and rehousing hundreds of hats in 2018.
Permanent Collection
Collection Inventory: History/Fine Art/Football Heritage
Help build the inventory of our 100,000+ piece collection with categories that include costumes and textiles, musical instruments, toys, glass, photography, industrial equipment, nursing, sports, archaeology, anthropology, ceramics, fine art, and sculpture. In 2018-2019, we underwent large collections processing and rehousing. Help us to record information, research, and rehouse various artifacts related to accessories, glass, and football heritage.
Cataloging
Learn how an object becomes part of a museum’s collection, from processing donor paperwork to labeling artifacts for storage.
How to apply:
Internships are available on a first-come first-serve basis. Applications for college-credit internships must be submitted at least 30 days before the semester starts, and supervisor approval may be required. Submitting an application does not necessarily guarantee that a paid museum internship will be granted. Staff will do their best to work with you and determine if the schedule and space will allow for a specified number of internships each semester. We look forward to working with you!
