Michael Cline is a graphic designer, illustrator, and recent graduate of the University of Mount Union, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design with minors in Business Administration and Entrepreneurial Studies. He is the founder of M. Cline Designs, a freelance creative studio specializing in branding, illustration, and visual identity design for businesses and organizations. While Michael is heavily involved with local initiatives throughout Northeast Ohio, he most recently collaborated with the NBA on a creative marketing project presented at the Philadelphia 76ers headquarters in New Jersey.
Michael's work is driven by a passion for bringing people together. His philosophy is that great design should be rooted in people, place, and purpose. His work aims to create distinctive visual experiences that strengthen community identity and tell stories that couldn't belong anywhere else. For the 2026 Island Party t-shirt, Michael drew inspiration from local history to celebrate the city's Bicentennial. The design direction was heavily influenced by the original 1926 Massillon Centennial illustration as a visual callback to the stylized skyline of historic Massillon buildings alongside the Tuscarawas River. To incorporate the island theme, he grounded the design in a vintage vacation postcard composition with tropical elements such as palm trees and ferns, and a pairing of bold block lettering with script typography. The result is a design that taps into the nostalgia of Massillon's heritage while providing a canvas for the community to make its own new memories at the 2026 Island Party.
